Mid-October in Grams

It's been far too long and I know it! You come to a point in your life (as a blogger) where sharing certain aspects of your personal life is damn near impossible. Those of you who care; the simplest explanation - the life I knew is gone, and now I am exploring the world through different eyes. Want more of an explanation, you know how to contact me!

October has been a festive month indeed. Face painting at work thanks to my wonderful friend Tamara. Lots and lots of trees. I do live in Kentucky!

Session Preview - Shauni

Hello and salutations to my faithful readers - and a warm welcome to any newcomers who were curious enough to visit me from Gentri Lee. <3

I'm cheating as I type this. I feel compelled to admit it. I read today is National Honesty Day and goodness knows I celebrate every National XXX XXX by following the rules outlined therein. So yes I must confess I am typing this post Monday night, though you - my beauties won't read it until Tuesday. "Why, Mika? Why would you throw blogging etiquette out the window like this?" I know that's what you're thinking, right? I have a good reason - Tuesday May 1 will be my 8th Wedding Anniversary. My loving husband and I are disappearing for the day. :)

Of course always thinking about my readers I still wanted to share a few of my favorites from Shauni's photo shoot last week, even though I'll be far far away when I actually 'share'!

Hello 2012 - New Year, New Name

Is it too late to wish everyone a Happy New Year? I'm going out on a limb here to say I'm in the clear. So Happy New Year everyone!! We're 4 days in, how is 2012 treating you thus far? I can't complain. I haven't worked since Saturday so 2012 is going swell for me. :)

You may have noticed the blog name change. If not, surprise! I had a tremendous amount of people ask me to keep my blog going this year - which meant a name change. Thanks to my wonderfully/witty and always on her toes friend Tamara the blog is now Shutter Blossoms. There is no need to panic, I will continue to share photos and random thoughts. I set out to blog about photography last year and I did just that. This year (and possibly from now on) the blog will focus on all aspects of art in my life. All ranging from photography (duh), art journaling, mixed media projects, poetry, short stories and other literary pieces. I also want to share random sites/ideas that I can't live without. I'm excited to get this year started and I hope you will continue to follow my journey as I blossom into my own.

I did a photo shoot Sunday 1-1-12 with my friend Danielle. I put her through a lot of torture (rain, sunlight in her eyes, muddy high heels..you know normal model mishaps) but she was a good sport and I got the shots I wanted.

Zoom Lens FTW

I briefly mentioned my new camera lens in last night's post. The new addition to my camera family is the Canon EF Ultrasonic 75-300mm lens. I'm in love!

Of course I had to play with my new toy right away on Christmas. As luck would have it, a large...no HUGE flock of birds were migrating at the same time I was snapping away. It was fate. A zoom lens and at least a thousand birds. Oh how wonderfully happy it makes me when things work out!

Below are the first photos with the lens. I still can't wrap my mind around the birds. What do you all think of the effects I used? I thought the blue sky was too boring so I mixed it up.

J & J Engagement Shoot

I finally have time to blog a sample of my last photo shoot. Jade and Josh were a blast to work with! I can honestly say there wasn't 5 minutes without laughter!

This was my first real engagement shoot and I'm proud of the results! Of course having two people so in love and fun to work with makes my job that much easier.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Simply Peace

I spent the better part of today thinking about this post and what I wanted to say. My mind is tired. Tired of over-rationalization. I find myself getting lost in the void. As a child I spent hours on end daydreaming. Now it's not so much a daydream - it is simply peace.

The following photos are from my journey through the forest behind my house. It was exactly what I needed, I just had to follow my feet to reach it.
